Understanding the Retweet Facepalm

I was thinking about the new retweet button on Twitter. I was thinking how bad it sucks, how could they be so dumb, etc. when it hit me --

They didn't screw up because they didn't listen to their users, they screwed up because they listened to the wrong users. If I had thousands of followers, or if I was a brand, the new retweet is exactly what I'd want to help me measure influence and keep RT's separate from the important conversational @ messages.

This is likely indicative of a larger trend where we'll be seeing our user experience sacrificed to satisfy the needs of brands and "thought leaders".

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Internet

I wrote a guest post for Lindsay Olson's blog on recruiting and public relations. It's a little bit autobiography, a little bit satire, and I hope a little bit funny. Check it out here.
